This Saturday we went to Hillsborough River State Park. It is located about 30 min NE of Tampa and about 1.5 hrs SW of Orlando.
When you enter the park you will follow a loop that circles the whole park.
The 1st Parking area “P1” has a small cabin which is the “Fort Foster Museum”. Here you can find some maps and information about the Second Seminole War.
The 2nd Parking area “P2” is where the Rapids Natrue Trial begins. This is where we spent most of our time.
The trail is a 1.2 mile loop that starts at the rapids:
There is an easy walking path that is flat about 15 feet off the river of if you’re feeling adventurous, you can can a well worn walking path that runs right along the edge of the river.
The trail moves West along the river until it hits the hanging bridge.
At this point, you can either cross the bridge and take the 1.1 mile Baynard Trail loop or head south towards a picnic area and then back to the starting point.
Here’s a short video taken with my DJI Mavic Pro showcasing some spots along the river:
All along the trail there are beautiful views of the river, trees and wildlife! The park also has a campground, swimming pool that is open in the summer and a small grill/gift shop. This park is a must see for anyone in the Central Florida area!
